Policy and Advocacy

AFDA is the voice of industry to Government. AFDA takes an active role in policy matters and advocacy on behalf of members and industry. This is achieved by monitoring proposed changes to legislation that affects the industry, as well as making submissions and advocating on behalf of the industry. If an issue arises, we actively campaign for members and are quick to inform them of any changes or developments.

The AFDA regularly makes submissions or issues papers on critical issues that impact the funeral industry, some of which are outlined below.

• Banking Royal Commission – Regulation of funeral insurance, bonds and prepaid funerals and point of sale funeral finance.

• Currency Restrictions (Restrictions on the Use of Cash) Bill 2019

• Fair Work – Funeral Industry Award 2010

AFDA collates industry data and commissions research into consumer and industry trends and regularly communicates the outcomes to members to help them improve and future proof their businesses.

AFDA works hard to promote the importance of choosing an AFDA member to bereaved families but also the professional standards upheld by its members to the public, media and government. AFDA continues to be the first point of contact for enquiries from the public, media and government departments.
